Rumor has it that DC is mulling over the idea of a Legion of Superheroes movie, in the hopes that it would be their Guardians of The Galaxy.
I know that at first glance, that seems like a wierd idea, but the more I think about it, the more I think it could actually work.
Aside from being a fun and exciting space adventure, what Guardians had going for it was there wasn’t 60 years of character work already established. For the most part, the Guardians we saw on the screen were only in a handful of books as a team and didn’t really come into their own until around 2008. Yes, they existed, but not really on the radar the same way an Iron Man or Captain America does. This allowed James Gunn and the actors in Guardians a lot of freedom to explore and try new things that resulted in a movie and characters that felt fresh, modern and exciting.
Warner Brothers could easily do the same with Legion of Superheroes. Yes, there are die-hard Legion fans out there who know every single member and can list off every power, but for the most part, the Legion is a group that people have heard of, but most don’t KNOW about. This is a great oppourtunity, not to change things per se, but to show a large audience what makes the Legion great, without having to deal with preconcieved notions.
It’s a long shot, but darn it, I think it could work.
For today’s page, I knew I could only count on the loveable Ali Thome:
Ali R. Thome, currently occupying space in Pennsylvania, started her art career as a caricature artist 3 years ago. In the past year she has quickly expanded her enterprise into illustration and more recently, the world of comics. Most of her work thus far has been done privately through commission work, but lately she has made a name for herself in the caricature world through her work at the International Society of Caricature Artist Convention. Lately her focus has shifted to illustration and comics working with Right After Then Design on their projects as well as tackling personal comic endeavours.
Have a great weekend, kids!
