There are a lot of really cool things about the 400th Gutters page.
Sohmer’s digs at classic covers are always hilarious, Rus is able to recreate the lettering on these pieces perfectly and you Ed’s coloring and treatment of the cover image is so good you can practically smell the aged paper.
Now there is another comic that’s celebrating a birthday this week and that of course is Detective Comics, which is publishing it’s 900th issue (technically speaking).
Sure, 900 seems like a lot and yes, Detective does feature Batman, but really now what’s more impressive? The Caped Crusader, or Yoda tripping The Flash? A never-ending battle with The Joker, or Superman peeing on planet Earth? Dark, gothic imagery and a rouges gallery of psychopaths and thieves, or Cyclops and Wolverine sharing an awkward post-coital moment and “KaBOOM, Bitches!”?
900 issues is impressive, but I’d say our 400 pack in a little more variety and that’s thanks to the passionate, dedicated team that we have here on Gutters. It’s been said before and I’ll say it again, each one of these pages is a labor of love and I can’t wait to see the next 400 unfold.
So, for the 400th Gutters Page, we turned to the talented pencil of Francisco Herrera:
Francisco Herrera is a 30 year old Comic book creator, who enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Francisco studied Graphic Design at University for 4 years. He grew up watching movies from Disney, Warner Bros, and all kinds of cartoons, as well as enjoying comics, and books. He considers himself very lucky to have met Humberto Ramos when he was young. The two became friends and Humberto helped Francisco hone his drawing skills and how the comics industry worksThe two have remained friends as Francisco has made a name for himself in the world of comics.
On behalf of Sohmer, Rich, Rus, Ed, Lar, Ari and the rest of the BFE crew, let me take this chance to say Thank You. Thank you for hanging out through 400 pages and be sure to stick around for the next 400. We’re just getting warmed up!
No, really, it’s been -5c here all week.
See you back here Friday!
