I, like a lot of you I’m sure, will remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I found out the big news: Angela is coming to the Marvel Universe.
For a minute anyways. Like a book… and a half… or so.
Anyways, yes, there I was sitting at my desk, reading the headline with disbelief, shocked, thinking over and over again… “Who the hell is ‘Angela?'”
I then went to the conveniently over-printed copies of the early Spawn issues that I have lying around and refreshed my memory.
This is an interesting turn of events for a couple of reasons. First, I think it’s kinda neat to introduce a spiritual character into a story about technology run amok. Second, it’s the first time in recent memory for me any ways, that a somewhat recognizable character from an “indie” publisher has jumped into the fray of the “Big Two.” This used to be more common among smaller companies, with creators taking their characters with them as contracts expired.
Also, I’m making a prediction right now that this is actually a big swerve on Marvel’s part to throw us off the scent of what would be a really big Gaiman-influenced character entering the Marvel Universe: Miracle/Marvelman.
I have nothing to back that up, but it’s a hunch. Just a hunch…
