One of my favourite things to do when I’m back in the city I grew up in, Toronto, is to head down to BMV Books on Bloor and pick up a stack of their blind-packaged back issue bundles. You never know what your are going to get in them and it’s always super fun to discover new and wierd comics that I never would have see before.
So, with that in mind, last year someone in our office got themselves a Lootcrate. We all kind of gathered around it and stared in awe like monkeys around a monolith and thought “Wouldn’t this be cool… with comics?”
After a a few months of working out the logistics, negotiating with publishers and talking with some of our webcomic friends, I’m proud to announce Blind Ferret’s newest comic service, dubbed Comic Bento.
Now what’s cool about Comic Bento is that it’s going to be books and graphic novels outside of the box (in an ironic twist…. because it comes in a box). Sure, there will be books from some well-known publishers, but through our friendships and status in the online comics world, we’re also able to get access to a lot of indie and self-published stuff, the kind of things that you probably wouldn’t see in Previews.
Comic Bento is an exciting and fun way to explore the medium of comics. So, if you’re so inclined, please check it out, won’t you?
