I’m a big fan of Ms/Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers. I’ve often felt that she was a really compelling character who just hadn’e found her niche yet. Under Kelly-Sue Deconnick’s watch, she’s flourished though and I’m glad to see that there will be a new Ms. Marvel joining the ranks of the Marvel U. However, the flurry of discussion about her religion has me feeling some pretty familiar stuff.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: One day I hope to live in a world where the God people pray to or the people they fall in love with won’t mean a thing. Until that day though, if one more person can pick up a comic and see themselves represented, that’s a good thing.
A Muslim superhero? This is not shocking. This is not a first. This is not anything more than a new comic book and to be honest, one that looks pretty good. Let’s make that the story, shall we?
