“You must be so mad about what they’re doing with Dr Doom!” is a phrase I’ve heard a lot lately. If you haven’t be following along, Fox has allegeldy decided to re-vamp Dr Doom’s origin in the upcoming Fantastic Four “movie” by Josh Trank.
Now, I make no secret about the fact that DOOM is one of my favourite characters, so getting asked this makes sense. My answer however, tends to cause some confusion: “I don’t care.”
Much the same way watching Batman & Robin doesn’t make me hate The Dark Knight Returns, the changing of characters in movies doesn’t affect my liking them or their stories in any way. It makes me dislike that particular movie or story. It also let’s me know that hey, I can skip this one. And with 137 Comic Book movies coming in the next few years, I think I’ll have plenty of other things to pass the time with.
The real story behind the Fantastic Four that we will be getting in 2015 is this: Maybe if half the people outraged about a blogging Doom or a Torch of a different race actually bought a Fantastic Four book, it wouldn’t be getting cancelled. It might also provide sales so strong that it would show Fox or whomever is making the movie that they don’t have to change anything, because the audience is there.
In the meantime though, it’s one more thing for the professionally outraged to get worked up over.
Today’s battle comes to us from Christian Meesey:
Christian “Meesimo” Meesey is a mild mannered Caricature artist by day. But when night falls, he unleashes upon the world a slightly less mild mannered comic book artist, with more blogs than one human should have. He is a Leo, and enjoys Coen Brothers movies and the musical storytelling of Tom Waits.
Have a great weekend, Friends!
