I have never been to DragonCon. I’ve been to conventions from one side of the continent to the other, but I’ve never made a stop at DragonCon. That said though, based on the articles I’ve read, the people I’ve spoken to who have gone and the general vibe of the convention, two things set DragonCon apart from the usual convention experience:
1.) It’s a cosplayer’s haven. Almost all of the best and most brilliant cosplay photos I’ve seen have come from DragonCon. Usually at conventions, there are a few costumes that are really set apart from the others. At DragonCon it seems like EVERY costume raises the bar. There are group shots of hundreds of Supermans alone that look movie-ready!
2.) Sex. Every year, the local Craigslist seems to fill up with m4m, m4w, w4w, ww4m, mm4wm, mmm4mf, wwfwwfmmfL and so on. I have no idea what most of those mean, but it sounds like DragonCon is where the good and geeky go to hook up. To which I say, to each their own and play safe.
So, I can’t say that a scandal like this would be good for any convention, but when it’s a convention that may have a slightly seedy reputation, it certainly doesn’t help.
Today’s page comes to us from an artist beyond reproach, David Hahn:
